Happy New Year, fam. It's been a few months since we checked in. Much has happened. Some of it is good. Some of it not so much. We have a new President who is stirring the pot way more than Billy Martin and Reggie Jackson ever did. Clemson snuck by the Tide on the last play of the National Championship game. Both programs look to reload for next season. The Braves have revamped their minor league system and their MLB roster. Looks promising. Sid has been crushing her schoolwork, volunteering and just completed an internship with a local graphic designs firm. Em has broken out from shoulder rehab and has been terrorizing attackers who dare to enter her zone. Poor things.
Altamont hoops teams recently completed a season sweep of their rival, Indian Springs, including Homecoming a few weeks ago. Playing this season away from home has been challenging for the teams but they have stepped up and are making the best of the situation. Senior Night is coming up which looks to be another fun evening.
Em quarterbacked the Seniors in the annual powderpuff football game during Homecoming Week.
This past weekend the Mountain Brook Lady Spartans kicked off the 2017 spring season in the Rebel Yell Icebreaker Lacrosse Tourney in Vestavia. On a cold, blustery day, the Green and Gold played well and captured three wins against conference foes, Vestavia, Hoover and Homewood. Several players scored in the three fairly easy wins. Em played sparingly in the games.
With seven experienced seniors leading a deep and talented team, this group should be tough to beat this season. Captains this year are Ellie, Lauren and Emily. This team will more balanced on offense as several of the scorers each
have scored more than 20 career goals. Several of these seniors have played
together since sixth grade, logging close to 125 games together over
the seasons. The starters will be comprised of seniors and juniors, all of whom have played in the state championship games the past few years. Kaylan (sophomore) at goalie will be sole young starter. Several of the freshman look to contribute with several promising players itching for some playing time. This looks to be another fun season.
Remember these Sports Illustrated "Get the Feeling" ads from the mid 1980s? Still effective.
Lots of celebrations in February. This week Em turns 18. Awesome. In a few weeks, Rob finds another year to open presents. More awesome. On the same day, Papa will celebrate a century. Most awesome. Falcons are looking to make history on Super Bowl LI against the Pats.
Have a great week, everyone!
