Spike! Set! Dig! Attack!

Hey sportsfans,

Nope, these are not dog commands. Not commands for your children, either. For the uninformed (namely, me) these are common volleyball terms. Once again, Em is introducing us to a new sport. She is a member of the Altamont 7th-8th grade girls team. What a team! 21 players strong. Keeping in mind that only six can play at one time, there is stiff competition.

Some of the Knights' more colorful athletic supporters.

Unfortunately Emmy has made it easy on the coaches as she has assumed the score keeping duties while she nurses a broken bone in her foot. Fast forward six weeks. Thankfully this past week she busted out of the protective boot and has graduated to physical therapy. She hopes to join the team next week. Then, look out!

On Monday night the Lady Knights began their season with decisive victories against Oak Grove and Comer Middle Schools. Two days later, the team took on Erwin and wiped them out as well.

Ginny and Alice in action for the JV team:

Em's team has several games slated for next week. She will have to practice her way into some playing time. Something tells me she will impress the coaches.

I saw a great t-shirt the other day that runners will appreciate: "Our sport is your sport's punishment."

Having a great week: Football fans. Game week! Our buddy Trey Collat was outstanding this weekend as he celebrated his bar mitzvah in grand style, ESPN Game Day-themed. Way to go Trey! Detoit Tigers ace Justin Verlander knotched his 20th victory on Saturday.

Having a not so great week: Yet another terrible fall by a fan at Texas Rangers ballpark. Come on people, enough is enough. The East Coast, after a 5.9 earthquake shook most of the eastern seaboard early in the week, Hurrican Irene is reeking havoc on the entire coast, including the sports world.

Labor Day is upon us. Revenge will be mine on the gulf, UD!

Have a great week everyone!
