This past week was big for the Lady Knights. They continue to play better each time out with Big Mo in their corner. Three games = three wins for the surging Black & Gold. Hopefully they are peaking at the right time with the playoffs just a week away.
The Lady Knights smushed (yeah, I used smushed) Victory Christian in Pell City during Monday afternoon to improve their overall record to 5-7. The 29 point win improved their area record to 5-1 in the area. Not much was gained in this scrimmage against a vastly inferior team. Em had pumped in eight points and committed close to thirty-seven fouls (although only four were called) in the blowout win. All the girls played lots of quality minutes.
During Tuesday night the team then defeated Westminster (1A) in a game played at Samford University. A game that featured the three oldest active (I use that word very loosely.) refs in the entire United States. These three aging amigos were so keen on calling jump balls and traveling violations that the game took more than thirty minutes longer than normal. I shaved 3x during this game because it took so long. However, a win is a win. Em chipped in with eight points, almost matching the four fouls she was called for. Sitting at 6-7 on the year, the Lady Knights looked forward to meeting Vincent on Friday at home.

Friday night the Lady Knights then hosted Vincent in a key area game. This one was intense from the opening tip. Down 12 in the second quarter, heading into the half the team was being out hustled and out manned at each end of the court. However, down 8 heading into the fourth, the Lady Knights stormed back with sixteen points in the final five minutes for the win. Em scored five and played very tough on defense. Katie, Molly and Aarthi each scored several key buckets. Caroline had numerous excellent rebounds and guarded well on defense. The win pulls their record to 7-7 (6-1 in the area). This was a huge comeback victory for a team that finally showed they could close out a game. Big heart. Big buckets.
The Lady Knight will close out the regular season this Tuesday night in a key game at Fultondale. If they win that game, the will be crowned regular season area champs and will host the area tourney the following week. A loss will mean a second place finish and likely traveling to Holy Family for the tourney. Nobody wants that!
While Em was on the court, Sid was in the school's production of Reviving Ophelia this past weekend. Powerful four shows featuring females leads. Here is the link that further describes the book. Reviving Ophelia. Very proud of all the actors who performed in this important coming of age play.
We also attended a couple of important local fundraisers this weekend. One of them was Jam for Sam. Jam for Sam is an annual Battle of the Bands benefit concert planned and orchestrated by Sam Lapidus’ family and friends as a way to honor Sam’s life. Funds donated through Jam for Sam go to the Alabama Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children’s of Alabama to help expand its research and treatment options for patients with cancer.
I like Peyton and the Broncos on Sunday.
Have a great week everyone!
