We are a couple of weeks into the summer and already enjoying lax tourneys, theatre camps and college baseball. While several trips are on the calendar, both girls are already into their summer plans. In addition to lax training, Em has been attending hoops workouts and will start watching the kids for a local neighborhood family friends. Sid is a counselor at ArtPlay theatre camp all summer. They are putting on Frog and Toad, School House Rock and Legally Blonde, Jr. Should be a fun summer for her being on the other side of the curtain.

“I think there is no world without theatre.” This quote is attributed internationally renowned master playwright Edward Bond. Sid should consider this to be her life's mantra if she survives this summer's camp experience. 7:00 am comes awfully early.
This past weekend Em played with Barefoot Lacrosse in the Southern Alliance Tournament in Peachtree City, GA. This is an annual showcase tournament that allows college coaches to watch and evaluate recruits during some excellent competition. Barefoot was comprised of players from three states and several grades. Em, Olivia and XTEAM teammates from the Atlanta and south Florida played together for the first time. This was a group of experienced and accomplished players, some of whom have committed to play in college (Cal-Berkley, Fresno State and Florida Southern) and several younger players are being heavily recruited.
Here is Em in action: #42 in black.

What a treat for Em to play alongside like-minded defenders and complimented by some excellent goalie play. This was a great measure of her skill-set against some excellent attackers and middies from across the south. The team went 3-0-1 in the High School Elite division, while outscoring their opponents 46-20. This weekend was a taste of what is to come later this summer with XTEAM. Coach Michelle is an XTEAM coach with many years of experience of turning players into top notch talent and college recruits.
We did see the first inside-the-park four-bagger at Regions Field at the Barons game. Last week Barons LF Christian Marrero torched one to right center that hit the base of the wall. By the time the Shuckers' keystone cop outfielders picked up the ball, Marrero had run through his third base coach's stop sign (kangaroo fine?) and slide safely well ahead of the weak throw to the plate. The ironic thing about this hit was that two innings prior Marrero slowly jogged on a ball in left that could have been caught. This lack of hustle led to a double and later a run for the visiting team. I guess he made up for it with the two-run inside-the-park job. Keep making lefts.
The Commodores, reigning D1 college baseball champs, are currently playing in the Super Regionals against Illinois. Winner heads to Omaha. Saturday's 13-0 thrashing of the Illini showed again that SEC baseball is the best around. Currently three other programs (Arkansas, LSU, Florida) have punched their tickets to Omaha. Vanderbilt and TAMU could join them as the 4th and 5th (of 8) teams in the College World Series. The Dores have 4-5 current players and 8-10 high school commitments who will be drafted this week in the annual MLB draft.
Kids, don't do this at home.
Em has two more lax tourneys and a hoops tourney later this month. Beach trip soon. How about American Pharoah winning the Triple Crown? Pretty cool. First one in 37 years. MLB All-Star game fast approaching. Anyone care? Time for another party?
Have a great week everyone!
