Hey Sportsfans!
Monday night the Lady Knights ran into a band of thugs named the Westminster School. In a rematch from an earlier tough contest, the Lady Knights took home their eleventh straight victory. This close game featured many fouls and some injuries. Since Westminster has only recently started its hoops program we have the assume they are just learning the game. I guess the alternative thought would be their coach is an idiot and is teaching his players to act like thugs. Either way, their players committed almost thirty fouls, many of which were very hard ones. Three of the Lady Knights sustained some good beatings while handling the ball and took home nice bruises as souvenirs. The 17-13 win was the closest contest of the season.
The last game of the year was scheduled against Fultondale for this past Thursday. The game was canceled due to inclement weather. No word on a make up date.
The winter dance recital "A Holiday Spectacular" Christmas in New York is fast approaching. The girls are both slated for several numbers. Should be a fun evening.
Oklahoma's QB Sam Bradford won this year's Heisman Trophy. Not really surprising given the unbelievable numbers his team has posted this season. Bradford garnered 1,726 points over Texas's Colt McCoy's second place 1,604 points. Though he actually received the most first-place votes, Florida's Tim Tebow finished third with 1,575 points. Bradford and Tebow will face off for the national championship in Miami in a few weeks.
Given the current state of our country's economy can baseball's spending be more out of whack? With multi-billion dollars stadiums being built in New York, and the two New York teams shelling out loads of money on free agents (Sabathia 161 $million, K-Rod $37m and Burnett $85m, and Texeria might get $200m) how much longer can the baseball fan afford to attend games? The Yankees are selling (yes, they are selling) single game seats behind home plate in their new stadium for $2500 per ticket.
In the NFL, the Detroit Lions are 0-14. They're the first 0-14 team since the 1980 Saints and the third team to start 0-14 since 1970. They've lost 15 straight overall, dating back to last season, and 21 of their last 22 games. They play the Saints and Packers to end the season. Good chance they won't win those games either. Anyone want to coach this team ???
Ben and UB at the top of the ridge on the trail.
